VIC: Kennett mourns deaths of five firefighters = 3

Mr Kennett extended his sympathy to the families and workmates of the five men, saying he
hoped Victorians would be generous in donating to the appeal.

He said he was not planning to visit the bushfire area on this occasion.

"I think whats more important is to make sure that the families are getting all the
assistance that they need to help them through this period," he told reporters.

"As I understand, the bushfire is now under control. Its not out and what we have now got
to deal with is the tragedy of the five families who have had their lives totally disrupted."
