Fed: Howard has broken petrol price promise Beazley

SYDNEY, Aug 18 AAP - Opposition Leader Kim Beazley said today that Prime Minister John
Howard had misled Australians on the rise in petrol prices following introduction of the
GST.

Mr Beazley told reporters in Sydney that Mr Howard had made a promise to the Australian
people that there would be no impact from his tax changes on the price of petrol.

"He made the promise and he has broken that undertaking and the Australian people hold
politicians who break promises accountable," Mr Beazley said.

"If the ACCC want to do something about it, all they have to do is write Mr Howard
a letter saying `Mr Howard, you broken your promise'.

"And do you want to take a bet on whether or not they will do that?"
