FED: Business calls for a final say on tax reforms

Australian business has called for a final say on business tax reforms after the federal
government unveils the long-awaited Ralph Report.

The federal government intends to announce its response to the final report by businessman
JOHN RALPH and his taskforce, at the same time it unveils the Ralph report.

Business Coalition for Tax Reform Chairman FERGUS RYAN says the government shouldn't commit
itself to final proposals until it's had the opportunity to consult with business and other
interested parties.

The Ralph Report is expected to cut the company tax rate and reduce the burden of capital
gains tax.

And the federal opposition has fired a warning shot that it won't support a tax package
which slices the fringe benefits tax from restaurant meals and carparks.

A report in the Australian Financial Review says the Ralph Report recommends Fringe
Benefits Tax be removed from restaurant meals and corporate carparks, at a cost of up to $380
million to revenue.
