NSW: Carr rejects call for juducial probe into baby's treatment

New South Wales Premier BOB CARR has rejected calls for a judicial inquiry into the
alleged mistreatment of a baby at Sutherland Hospital in Sydney.

On Saturday, a woman took her baby to the hospital's emergency department after the
child stopped breathing.

But instead of being treated immediately, she was told to fill in paperwork.

Eventually she went to a nearby private hospital and the baby was revived.

Mr CARR says there are bound to be some problems in a hospital system which treats
millions of patients each year.

But he says any mistake is still one too many.

However, he says there won't be inquiry into the matter as it's unnecessary.
